DescriptionMedal from the 1895 Irvington-Milaburn bicycle race. The 7th annual Irvington-Millburn Road Race took place on May 30, 1895. The winner was F.W. Richt with a time of 1:13:30; Second place was Standeven, third was O.L Roche, fourth was F.G. Smith. According to news reports, Titus broke down at 10 miles; Marte Scott made the best time at 1:12:30 (Handicapped 50 secords). From the Jersey City News (May 31, 1895): "The great twenty-five mile Irvington-Milburn (sic) road race yesterday was witnessed by over 20,000 people. Large crowds of local wheelmen left this city early to witness the race and although no local riders were entered in the race, the found the race noe the less interesting. One hundred seventeen of the 157 men entered started. The road were broken. Fred Titus, who was looked upon as a likely winner, retired after having ridden twelve miles. He claimed that Hand, his pacemaker, had broken his wheel and that he did not wish to go it alone. F.W. Richt of the Brooklyn B.C. with 7 minutes handicap, won in 1 hour 14 minutes and 30 seconds. S. Standevan of Paterson, with a like handicap, finished one second faster. O.L Roehr, K.C.W. was third and F.G.Smith Boomfield, fourth."
