Photographs from the 1978 David Gibson Historical Sites Inventory of 12 The Crescent, constructed in 1882 by the architectural firm of Hugo Lamb & Charles Rich for the latter's parents Reverend and Mrs.Alonzo B. Rich. Charles Rich kept his studio on the third floor and also had a studio for him to practice amateur photography. The house is a prime example of Shingle Style architecture
Rich wrote the name "Sunset Cottage" in beach pebbles in the panel above the window of the hall. He used a variety of materials and colors on the exterior to heighten the picturesque effect of the house.
