Millburn Avenue Bridge, October 1949

Photograph
Millburn Avenue Bridge over the west branch of the Rahway River, taken in October 1949. Notice on the left, the bank building foundation now forms the river bank. On the Lonergan's partially blocks one of the arches of the bridge. On the north side, two buildings bridge the river, on the right is Drapkin's Department Store. Both buildings were removed by the town after their pylons in the river helped cause several serious floods and the buildings were seriously damaged. Drapkin's Department store (333-335 Millburn Avenue) was founded in 1910 by Morris Drapkin. In 1944, it was sold to Nat Eisenberg.
