Arch Restaurant: 840 Morris & Essex Turnpike, 1963

Postcard
Postally unused postcard, advertising: Luncheon, Cocktails, Dinner, Dinner Music, Open Daily, Facilities for Private Parties. The Arch restaurant opened on December 30, 1956. Philip Dameo was president of the company and Silvio Orlando, former manager of the Chanticler restaurant, was manager. The building was designed by Emil A. Schmirdlin, one of the leading architects of the period. The plan called for a 10,000 square foot building with driveways and parking areas, which was estimated to cost $250,000. The Arch was to be "the last word in restaurants." Schmidlin went on to design the 1964 Formica World's Fair House in 1964, collaborating with East Orange designer Ellis Leigh. In April 1976, the Arch transferred its liquor license to Benihana, which took over the space the following year.
