Oral History: Thomas, George, October 28, 1977

Oral History
Lived at the "Rose Cottage," 78 Chestnut Street from 1918-1968, one of the original 10 houses developed in 1872. Discussed the architect A.W. Dow, who remodeled the Rose cottage when his aunt, Ada Dow, lived there. Thomas worked for Western Electric, which became Bell Labs. Discussed the old Wyoming railroad station, the Wyoming Association, Wyoming Church and its founding pastor Reverend Brown Emerson. Thomas was on the PTA and then elected to the Board of Education in 1921. Organized the on of the first cub scout packs in the United States. Was also a member of the Old Guard. Other notable references: When he came in 1917, he lived with Mr. & Mrs. Ben Deering and took meals at Mrs. Tepper's boarding house, which later became the French house. Thomas studied with John Mills at MIT and came to Wyoming after Mills was invited by Hannah and Frank Jewett. Charlie Reeves was in real estate at the time he was looking and help Thomas find the Rose Cottage.Mentions the Willever house on Sagamore and Glen.
