Millburn Township PTA Flyer for "The Dream of a Clown," 1944
Publication
Flyer advertising The Dream of a Clown, an all-male production sponsored by the Millburn Township Parent-Teachers Association, for the benefit of the student loan fund. The text was printed in red ink and announces Monday and Tuesday evening production, May 1st and 2nd, in the high school auditorium. It adds: "70 Local Men in Cast 70; Screams of Laughter; Don't Miss It." The cast comprised many prominent local men and music by the Chanticler Orchestra. Reserved seats were in sale "Beginning Friday Morning, April 28th...at Kaiser's Drug Store." April 28th was on a Friday in 1944, which is primarily how the date was determined. The flyer was printed by the "Press of the Item, Millburn, N.J." and the production was "Produced by Franklin-Emerson Producing Company, Newark, N.J." There is a horizontal fold line across the approximate middle of the paper; much edgewear and small tears on all sides; a 2" wide x 1/2" high piece is missing from the bottom edge; there is a red pencil (?) mark over the name John R. Vorhees, which may indicate that he did not continue as part of the cast; there is a light green-tinted discoloration on the left edge, near the middle of the right side of the paper.
