1928, 104-page, hardcover children's book on gardening. Written by Helen Page Wodell, later of the Wodell and Cottrell landscape design firm of Short Hills.
Helen Page Wodell, a pioneering figure in landscape architecture during the 1930s. Wodell gained recognition for her expertise in gardening and in the more gender-appropriate field flower arranging during the late 1920s. Her articles appeared in many of the major women's and decorating magazines, including House and Garden and The Woman's Home Companion. In 1928, she published the children's book, Beginning to Garden, which catapulted her to national fame. At the same time, she was sought after as a lecturer at newly formed garden clubs throughout the country. Her esteem grew and she was among the few women to be referred to as a "professional" landscape gardener at the time.
