Cora Hartshorn Arboretum: The Bird Sanctuary, 1931-33

Sepia-colored real-photo postcard view of the stone house at the Cora Hartshorn arboretum on Forest Drive in Short Hills. Designed by leading architect of the the period Bernhardt Muller, the building was constructed using stone from the Hartshorn quarry. It was designed in 1931 & completed in 1933. Card is titled "The Bird Sanctuary, Short Hills, N.J." Card is postally used and date stamp is Aug 21, 1939. Card was sent to Mrs. Howard D. Pierce, Montgomery St, Cranston, RI. Handwritten message on back says: "We've been helping Ray celebrate his birthday. Have been to the World's Fair. Will be home Tuesday. Plan to come up for the day very soon. A bus leaves Prov. 5 times a day for Milford & stops here. When you let me know the day I'll get word to Ruth." On the front of the card, below the words "The Bird..." is a bit of the curved double line of a cancellation stamp.
