Gentzel Grocery Co. envelope, 1904
Archive
Postally used, now-empty envelope mailed by Gentzel Grocery Company, formerly at 387 MIllburn Avenue, to Mr. Shepardson of Millburn. The word "Millburn" is crossed out, apparently by the post office, and "Springfield, NJ" is stamped in red next to "Millburn." This incorrect address apparently necessitated additional postage and "POSTAGE DUE" is stamped in red on the front of the envelope, with "1 ct." handwritten next to that. The postmark date is Nov. 28, 1904. The envelope is lightly soiled all over, is yellowed around the edges, has a stain line ca. 1/2" in from the lower left edge of the front and a 1/2" long line above and to the right of that, and has edge wear. The back of the envelope has a column of added numbers, written in red. Purchased on eBay.
