Municipal Employees Clearing Debris 23 Essex Street, c. 1926

Photograph
Photograph of Municipal Employees clearing debris from the property of Annie Mc Monigall's 23 Essex Street (corner of Essex and Elm) c. 1926. After numerous complaints to the town over the unsightly appearance and unsanitary conditions at 23 Essex Street, Municipal Employees, including Fireman John D. Hayes and Chief Engineer of the Millburn Fire Department Frank M. Schmidt, inspected the property and determined it to be a public health and hazard. The site was cleared of the excess debris: cartons, barrels, crates, bed springs and other rubbish.
