G.A.R.: Brass Buttons for G.A.R. and Sons of Union Veterans Uniforms

Object/Artifact
Five brass buttons from Grand Army of the Republic and Sons of Union Veterans uniforms. Buttons such as these were part of the formal uniform worn by members of the G.A.R. and SOUV in ceremonies such as Decoration Day or at funerals. The G.A.R. button (1) is larger and was probably worn on a jacked. The Sons of Union Veterans buttons (4) are smaller and were probably used for cuffs or shirts.
