Oral History: Gallitelli, Saverio; June 18, 1981

Oral History
Gallitelli lived in Millburn starting in 1914 (had been here earlier but went back to Italy to marry). Lived at 17 Main Street - current site of JCPL equipment. Much detail on development of many areas of Short Hills and of downtown Millburn - a lot of specifics on buildings and stores. Also recollections of various Short Hills families for whom he worked. His wife, two daughters and a grand-daughter were also present for interview. His daughter Mary Ackerman recalls prejudice toward Italian-Americans. She said they couldn't associate with people from Wyoming and Short Hills. "They made fun of us." NOTES: Transcript of interview, at start, misspells surname as "Gallitello." 22pp. Interviewers were Jenks Schachter and Howard Brahams.
