Glenwood School 6th Grade Yearbook, 1946

According to Carol Pippitt, each student pasted together his/her own book. Carol had Mrs. Henrietta Marshall Birmingham as her 6th grade teacher. "She was especially capable and very nice. She divided the class into rows according to each student's abilities. Then each week we competed against the other students in our row to see who could get the best grades in English, math, and probably other subjects. Every Friday, we rearranged our desks within our assigned rows with the high scorer getting the front spot, the second getting the second spot, etc until all 5 or 6 spots were taken. Although such a system would be impossible today, it kept some of us trying our hardest. It was rewarding to move forward in a row and quite exciting to get to the front of the row."
