From the History of the Irvington-Millburn Bike Races: "May 30, 1891 found wheeling evolution from the high wheel to the safety, both kinds being in the race, but the winner, F.C. Graves of Boston Massachusetts was mounted on an ordinary fitted with cushion tires."
