Photograph
House built for Mr. John A. Stewart, Jr., c. 1888. Land was purchased from Sarah A.C. Seavers in 1886. Stewart was the son of John A. Stewart, who was financial advisor to Abraham Lincoln and founder of the United States Trust Company. Stewart, Jr. was in real estate and a friend of Stewart Hartshorn. The house was completed c. 1887 and named "Appin." The house is an example of late Victorian, vernacular style, designed to reflect traditional architecture of English Cotswold Cottages.
