Caparn: Anna Sewell, Black Beauty gift from Mrs. Stewart Hartshorn

Anna Sewell, Black Beauty: The Autobiography of a Horse with Twelve Illustrations in Color by Maude Scrivener. Philadelphia: George W. Jacobs & Co. 295 pp. Copy of Anna Sewell's Black Beauty given by Mrs. Stewart Hartshorn to Arthur Louis Caparn (b.1897), son of Arthur Tom Caparn, estate gardener for Stewart Hartshorn. Arthur Tom Caparn also had a tree nursery on White Oak Ridge Road and was in partnership with Thomas J Caparn in designing and planting estates. The book contained a calling card printed “Mrs. Stewart Hartshorn Short Hills New Jersey”, inscribed “Wishing Luis a very Merry Christmas.”
