First National Bank of Millburn Opening Invitation, 1954
Object/Artifact
Invitation and envelope to the opening of the new First National Bank of Millburn building on Millburn Avenue and Douglas Street, Saturday, March 6, 1954. The bank was established in 1907 and moved in 1954 to its new location on Millburn and Douglas Street, which was designed to accommodate greater vehicular traffic. The design featured a modern amenity: The Drive-In Window, which President of the First National Bank Robert F. Smith emphasized enabled "people with checking accounts need not even park, but can bring their car to the teller at the Drive-in window and continue on their way without even alighting from their automobile."
The new building was designed by architect N. Lester Troast of Passaic, NJ and was praised as being modern and functional.
The envelope was addressed to William C. and Helen A. Jensen, 126 Meisel Avenue, Springfield, N.J.
