Chatham Road Stores, c. 1969

Photograph
From the society's collection of slides taken by Helen Hauser for the Short Hills Home Garden Club's sign survey, this is a partial view of the stores on Chatham Road ca. 1969. On the left was the S&S Fruit Center (now the Short Hills Pharmacy), Next to it was the A&P Food Store, which we were told was there because an A&P heiress lived in town then. That store became a liquor store later and is now also part of the pharmacy. Next to the A&P was Village Cleaners and there is still a Village Cleaners there. The Esso gas station next to the cleaners is also still there and unchanged except for a large canopy over the pumps.
