12 The Crescent, Sunset Cottage, 1882

Photograph
David Gibson Historic Survey Photograph from 1978 of Sunset Cottage. House designed by Charles Rich during his first year in partnership with Hugo Lamb (Lamb & Rich) at 12 The Crescent in Short Hills. The house was commissioned by Reverend and Mrs. Alonzo B. Rich, the architect's parents. The house also contained a studio on the third floor where Charle Rich worked. The name "Sunset Cottage" was written in pebbles on a panel above the window of a hall. The picturesque appearance was enhanced by the architect's use of a variety of material (rough stone, brick & wood) and palate of colors simulating a sunset.
