First Aid Squad: Millburn-Short Hills Building Site, c. 1965

Photograph
Photograph shows the Delaware, Lackawanna & Western Railroad freight Station on Glen Avenue, which was in that location until after WWII. In 1957, the township bought the property and turned the yard into a commuter parking lot. The First Aid Squad building was later located on the site. Efforts to organize a First Aid squad for Millburn-Short Hills began in 1957. The organization, consisting of 35 members, received its NJ charter in 1958 and answered its first call on June 14. Funding for equipment and operating expenses was largely provided through the Short Hills Junior league. In 1962, the squad was able to purchase its first ambulance and in 1967 received a second ambulance from the town. In December 1966, the Millburn-Short Hills Volunteer First Aid Squad moved into its new headquarters at Glen Avenue and Lackawanna Place.
