45 Stewart Road, c 1885

Photograph
Photograph from the 1978 David Gibson Historical Survey of 45 Stewart Road. One of the Original Hartshorn Estates, Inc. home (House # 58). The house was the site of the Baquet Insitute, a private girl's school in operation from c. 1880-1910. The school was the first Episcopal Girls School in Short Hills. According to Coleman Burke, it was moved by Mr. Layng from the site of the Pattison house, about a 1/2 block away. The school was named for Professor Camille Baquet and run by his daughter, Harriet Stuart Baquet. who taught at Mr. Holly, N.J. before moving to Short Hills.
