Photograph of 149 Old Short Hills Road at Jefferson Avenue taken by Owen Lampe in January 1976.Stop #12 on the Old Short Hills Road Walking Tour. The house was owned by Charles M. and Heloise Keller from 1866-1889 and was where Louis Keller, one of the founders of Baltusrol Golf Club, grew up. Address is now 1 Jefferson. Charles M. Keller (1810-1874) was a distinguished patent lawyer, who is credited with being the father of the patent system. Upon Charles' death, the house was described: A country seat in a picturesque part of New Jersey, with his own billiard room, library and piazzas commanding extended scenery.—also included outhouse, agricultural implements, cattle & horses. (The Sun, January 5, 1875).
