140 Old Short Hills Road, Renwick House

Photograph
According to Marion Meissner, this was Edward Sabine Renwick's house. E.S. Renwick (1823-1912) was an inventor and mechanical and civil engineer, who also acted as an expert in the trials of patent causes and in soliciting patents.. He was the author of "Patentable Inventions" and also invented the chicken brooder. His brother was architect William Renwick. His daughter, Elizabeth married Walton Whittingham, son of Dr. Edward Whittingham. Renwick probably rented the home from Frederick Farley and may have lived there with his brother William. Ownership records indicate that in 1834, Lewis Lindsley sold the home to Samuel Edwards. The original tract of property extended to Farley and Parsonage Hill Roads.
