Concrete House & Its Construction book
Book
224-page hardcover 191 book The Concrete House and its Construction, published by Association of American Portland Cement Manufacturers, Philadelphia, PA. Book has numerous b/w photos of the Short Hills concrete home of William C. DeLanoy, later the home of Louis G. Kaufman, at the corner of Delwick & Montview. Kaufman abandoned the house, then had it house demolished after he left the Short Hills community, allegedly because they would not allow him to join the country club because his father was Jewish. Young people and vagrants had been breaking into the house and the town told him to either demolish the house or hire guards to look after it. See Polly McFarlin's oral history interview for a description of the house. Pieces of what appear to be bathroom floor tiles were retrieved from excavation at the site, many years later (ca. 2005). Front and back covers of the book have faint dirt and spotting. Minor edge wear on top and bottom of spine. Pages are clean and bright. Purchased online, on March 30, 2009, from Michael Knight, Bookseller; 2135 NW Highland Dr, Apt. 4; Corvallis, OR 97330-1457 ( knightm18@gmail.com ).
