298 Main Street, Millburn, c. 1800-1830
Photograph
Photograph of 298 Main Street, Millburn taken by Owen Lampe in January 1976. The house was known for being the site of the "Hackleton Elm," an over 200 year old Elm tree that had a cannon ball from the Revolutionary War lodged in its trunk. During a surgery operation in the 1950's, the cannonball, evidently fired in the fighting with the British on June 23, 1780, was removed from its trunk. The house stayed in the Oliver family until 2023 and was demolished in 2024.
