17 Birch Lane, Garden View
Photograph
View of 17 Birch Lane Garden House was known as the Bosland House. Notes in file state: "Bosland House--Rhodes had it built for the Rhodes family to live in by a Boston architect, whose first name was Fred and was a classmate of Mr. Rhodes at MIT. They bought that land from William Hill. He owned a big block, from Adams Avenue all the way to the Walbridge house, possibly including the Field Club. Miss Rhodes looked up the deed of the now-Sprague lot (33 Birch) and found deed restrictions as follows: property could not be used for a brewry or to raise pigs; any house built must cost over $5,000.
