Jefferson School: Parsonage and Old Short Hills Road, 1892

Photograph of the Jefferson School at Parsonage Hill Road and Old Short Hills Road.Photograph is dated June 20, 1892. Teacher is Miss Emma Baker, standing near the tree on the right. Original photograph corresponding to image #42 in the Centennial Collection. Verso of photograph identifies owner as M. (Marianne) Blood, 93 Old Short Hills Road, Short Hills. Photographer: Ranald Douglas, Livingston, New Jersey. Ranald Douglas (1853-1910), was a deaf photographer, who was acclaimed for his photographs of schools (especially schools for the deaf). He was active from 1870-1910. Douglas established his first studio in 1875 in Livingston, New Jersey, which would be the place he called home and returned to many times throughout his life. He also had studios in Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, New Jersey, and Washington, D.C.
