12 The Crescent, Sunset Cottage, 1882
Photograph
House designed by Charles Rich during his first year in partnership with Hugo Lamb (Lamb & Rich) at 12 The Crescent in Short Hills. The house was commissioned by Reverend and Mrs. Alonzo B. Rich, the architect's parents. The house also contained a studio on the third floor where Charles Rich worked. The name "Sunset Cottage" was written in pebbles on a panel above the window of a hall. The picturesque appearance was enhanced by the architect's use of a variety of material (rough stone, brick & wood) and palate of colors simulating a sunset.
