DescriptionA New Jersey Red Oak Liberty Tree was planted in Taylor Park on April 17, 1976 to commemorate the planting of the original Liberty Tree in Massachusetts in 1646 to protest the Stamp Act. Gloria Patrizio was President of the Bicentennial Committee in Millburn. Pictured in the Photograph are (left to right): George H. Bauer, Mrs. Milford Vieser, Mayor Alexander B. Lyon, Jr., Mrs. Gloria Patrizio, William Barr and Daniel Hussey. The event was part of a township program, which included an invocation by Bishop John J. Dougherty, pastor of St. Rose of Lima Church, a welcome address by William Barr (Chairman of the Bicentennial Committee), Singing by Troop 401 Girl Scouts. Mayor Alexander B. Lyon (head of special projects for the Bicentennial Commission) spoke . Herbert Steier lead woodwind musicians and Reverend Ronald W. Johnson, pastor of the Wyoming Presbyterian Church delivered the benediction. A bronze plaque was placed on a boulder in front of the tree.
