First Baptist Church: Steeple Replacement, 2006

Photograph
In the summer of 2006 the steeple at First Baptist Church, on the corner of Millburn Avenue and Spring Street, was replaced (by a fiberglass one?) by Verizon, in order to accommodate a cell tower. When the original steeple was removed, they found "1861" "RVC" "Paint"(?) and other initials on the wooden beams in the steeple. These photos were taken of those beams with the date, etc., the steeple replacement process, and Rev. Hines. Photos were new in 2006 and undamaged. The Millburn Baptist Church was organized by a group of nine men and women on October 18, 1858. Mrs. Isabelle Lee donated a plot of land at the corner of Millburn Avenue and Spring Street to construct a church. The cornerstone was laid on August 10, 1859.
