Salvatore 'Samartino' Brass award plaque given by Gulf
Object/Artifact
Donated from a Sammartino estate sale at a home on Ocean Street in Millburn. This is an award for five years of business association with Gulf Oil, which began in 1950. Thus the award dates to 1955.
From an envelope in the society's collection we learn that Sal's Gulf Service Station was at the corner of Main and Essex Streets in Millburn.
About 2" of the right side of the brass plaque is discolored/tarnished and there is a greenish, rusty 2.25" streak about 1.5" in and up from the bottom right corner of the plaque. There is also a brownish discolored streak shaped like the numeral "7", the top of which begins about 3.5" down from the top left side of the plaque. About 3" down from the top of that left side, the streak bends downward and intersects the bottom edge about 2.75" in from the left bottom corner.
