Esso Station, Chatham Road, Short Hills, 1950s

Photograph
This early 1950s photo was loaned to the Millburn-Short Hills Historical Society from the collection of Tom Schaefer, a prior owner of the service station at Woodland and Chatham roads in Short Hills. Tom's grandfather bought the business from the original owner, a Mr. Wittkop, who owned all of the buildings in that section of Chatham Road. The business on that site is now Short Hills Fuel. What looks like an extension on the right of the existing/original building is apparently a building behind it, where the Woodland Road apartments are now. A sign in one of the windows in that building on the right side seems to say "FOOD."
