Hartshorn: Shade Roller Bracket Box
Object/Artifact
Burnt-orange-colored cardboard box labeled: "1 INCH BRACKETS for HARTSHORN'S SELF-ACTING SHADE ROLLERS." Sides of the box are labeled: "1 Inch Hartshorn." Back of the box is labeled: "Hartshorn's Self-Acting SHADE ROLLERS, the First & Best; Stewart Hartshorn's name, in script, appears on every label.; Avoid Imitations.; Factory, East Newark, N.J." Bottom end flap is labeled: "Box Patented Dec 31, 1872.; Osborn Patent Paper Box Co.; Newark, N.J." The small box has overall soiling, especially on the front, where there are also overall light and dark stains and worn edges. Inside the box are two (metal?) unidentified objects that seem to be unrelated to shade roller brackets. One item is a square, worn item 1 3/4" long x 1/4" high. The other item is round and tubular; may also be metal; ca. 1/4" in diameter and 3/4" high. Purchased on eBay from Connie Zehnder; 20978 281st Street; Belle Plaine MN 56011.
