Local residents who were interested in the unique history, architecture, and genealogy of our town joined to found the society in 1975.

The purpose of the society is to encourage interest in local history and disseminate information about it. Ongoing projects of the society include programs for the public and for school and scout groups, recording oral histories, and establishing an archive to preserve and catalogue documents, photographs, and memorabilia relating to Millburn’s history.

The mission of the non-profit Millburn-Short Hills Historical Society is to encourage interest in local history, and to preserve and disseminate relevant information concerning Millburn Township. It carries out this member-supported mission by the acquisition, preservation, interpretation, and exhibition of artifacts from Millburn’s and Short Hills’ past, particularly as expressed through its people, architecture, commerce, education, and topography.

The society’s collection is housed in the museum in the Hobart Avenue-side building at the Short Hills train station. The museum is currently closed to the public due to the COVID-19 situation, and we look forward to reopening our doors as soon as possible.
